If you are missing most or all of your teeth, a denture supported by All-on-4® implants can restore the form and function of your smile. All-on-4 is a treatment technique that uses four dental implants to support a full-arch denture. Typically, a full denture requires six to eight implants and many implant-supported denture patients must first undergo a bone grafting procedure. All-on-4 can often eliminate the need for grafting. Instead of having to wait for the jaw to heal before receiving a denture, this system can often support a denture immediately following placement. At our office in Minneapolis, MN, Dr. Tim Clavin can coordinate your All-on-4 treatment and provide a natural-looking denture for a fully restored smile.
Explore Your Candidacy
You may be a candidate for All-on-4 implants if you are missing some or all of the teeth in your upper or lower jaw, or both. You will need sufficient jawbone tissue to support the implants, but if you have experienced some jaw atrophy, you may still be a candidate.
Dr. Clavin and our team can assess your candidacy during an initial consultation. We will take x-rays of your jaw and Dr. Clavin will perform an oral health evaluation to determine if All-on-4 implants are the right treatment for you. Patients who smoke, suffer from uncontrolled diabetes, or have periodontal disease may not immediately qualify for dental implants of any kind.
The All-on-4 technique allows a wider range of patients to experience the benefits of dental implants.
Receiving All-on-4 Implants
If Dr. Clavin determines you are a candidate for the All-on-4 technique, he can coordinate with a trusted periodontal practice in the same building. Your periodontist will numb your gums and jawbone and then make small incisions before inserting the titanium posts. During the implantation process, your periodontist will angle the back posts slightly to achieve greater surface contact between the jaw and implants. This positioning is one reason why All-on-4 can support a denture with fewer implants. Once the implants are in place, your periodontist will close the incisions with sutures.
In most cases, your periodontist can immediately attach a temporary denture to wear while your jaw heals. This can take four to six months. Once the implants and jaw have become fused, Dr. Clavin will attach your permanent denture for a fully restored smile.
